Disability Rights in Private and Public Housing

Regardless of whether you live in private or public housing, fair housing laws provide the following rights to persons with disabilities:

Prohibits discrimination against persons with disabilities.

Requires housing providers to make reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities.

Requires housing providers to allow persons with disabilities to make reasonable modifications.

Requires that new covered multifamily housing be designed and constructed to be accessible.

 

Arkansas Fair Housing Commission

The Arkansas Fair Housing Commission is an enforcement agency that works in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to enforce fair housing laws.

Ramp Programs

Southwestern Bell Pioneers builds free wheelchair ramps for disabled Arkansans withing the SBC telephone service area. Over 500 ramps have been built to date.

UA Studio AID was established in 2004 by Korydon H Smith, Associate Professor in UA School of Architecture, as part of the Arkansas Universal Design Project. The Arkansas Universal Design Project was sponsored by Arkansas Rehabilitation Services, the Arkansas Department of Health & Human Services, and UAMS Partners for Inclusive Communities.
